Shifting Baseline

2020.

An exploration of forms intended to replicate nature; as the boundary between the natural and manufactured environments continues to shift, the question "what is natural" arises. For example, what we consider to be natural would be considered by previous generations to be altered or affected by human hands. Likewise, what a future generation considers to be natural would be considered by us to be affected by human hands. This continual shift in perception has important consequences; it is now seen as one of the fundamental obstacles to addressing the ecological crisis.

Shifting Baseline relates to my ongoing exploration of perception, materiality and the manufactured and natural environments.
